Ciao, Mia.
On 12th May was the death anniversary of a great Italian singer, Mia Martini. Mia was born on 20th September 1947 in Bagnara Calabra. Her real name was Domenica Bertè.
She recorded her first records with her real name Mimì Bertè, but she soon decided to change her name to the more appealing Mia Martini.
Her biggest hits were in the 70s, first of all "Piccolo Uomo", which was recorded in several languages, "Padre davvero", "Donna sola" e "Minuetto".
On 1982 sang at the Sanremo Festival "E non finisce mica il cielo", a song written by Ivano Fossati. The '80s were her hardest years and she tought to retire, but she didn't.
On 1989 sang a song titled "Almeno tu nell'universo", written by Bruno Lauzi. This song is considered her masterpiece and has been covered by several famous Italian singers including Mina and Elisa. This is my favorite Mia's song.
Her career ended tragically in 1995 when she was found dead in her apartment. The cause of her death isn't very clear, perhaps she was killed by a stroke caused from antidepressive medicines. She was alone in house in that tragic moment and her body has been found several hours after her death.
Ciao, Mia.
