L'Illinois è stato istituito come ventunesimo stato degli USA il 3 Dicembre 1818 ed ha 11.418.000 abitanti.
Il suo nome deriva dalla tribù indiana degli Illiniwek, popolo che abitava la regione. Illiniwek significa "tribù di uomini superiori".
Confina a nord con il Wisconsin, ad ovest con Iowa e Missouri, ad est con l'Indiana ed a sud col Kentucky. Per un breve tratto a nord-est confina col lago Michigan.
L'Illinois è celebre per aver dato i natali al presidente Abraham Lincoln.
La capitale dell'Illinois è Springfield.

Illinois is the 21st U.S. state and entered into Unionis on December 3th, 1818. It is located in the American Midwest.
The state is named for the Illinois River which was named by French explorers after the indigenous Illiniwek people, a consortium of Algonquian tribes that thrived in the area. The word Illiniwek means "tribe of superior men".
Its northern border is Wisconsin. Its western border with Missouri and Iowa is the Mississippi River. Its eastern border is Indiana. Its southern border with Kentucky is the Ohio River. Illinois also borders Michigan, but only via a water boundary in Lake Michigan.
Illinois is noted for memorials associated with the life of Abraham Lincoln.
Capital: Springfield.
Cities: Chicago, largest city in the state and the third most populous city in the United States; Aurora, Rockford, Naperville, Joliet, Peoria, Elgin, Waukegan, Cicero.
